| A Foreigner's impression of Catarman, Northern Samar
Catarman
is the capital town of Northern Samar. It is the center of all provincial
activities. Governmental functions, business, trade, and commerce occur
in this town.

Currently, the provincial government is spearheading the
promotion of tourism to expose the untouched natural and tourist attractions
of the province.

The town
is progressive, it is a magnet to all economic activities in the province. It has 6 flights a week from and to Manila, the country's capital city.

Another city, Calbayog, 1 hour away has 6 flights a week also. This makes it 12 flights a week travel to and from catarman.

Moving here for your retirement or relocation is so convenient.

Transportation
is efficient, the civil infrastructures are excellent, and the national
road is all concrete throughout Northern Samar.

You may think
that we lacked supplies for your basic needs.

Well, we may not have
Walmart, Shoprite, or Pathmark here but our market and grocery stores
can surely satisfy even the western man's needs.

Ask an expat or a foreign
resident in Northern Samar. We have many of them now living here. They
like it here. You will too if you care to visit us.

You
may think that we are a remote province, far from civilization. Think
no more.

Since the Spaniards colonized the country 400 years ago we were
among the first provinces to get in contact with western civilization.

Our province is the passage of Manila Galleons, the equivalent to modern
cargo ships, to Mexico. Obviously, we are the gateway to the Pacific Ocean. The Manila Galleons passed through our waters. Spanish shipyards were located here
and the Jesuits Christianized and educated the locals.

No wonder nowadays,
Catarman has 20 educational institutions and has the largest University
in the Philippines namely, the University of Eastern Philippines.

Above
is one of the schools in Catarman that offers degrees in Nursing, Commerce,
Business Management, Liberal Arts and other disciplines.

Financially,
we are stable. We are much remote from the muscle of Wall Street but we
can stand on our own as a self sustaining province.

We have more than
10 banking and lending institutions. Being the capital of the province,
Catarman attracts business and governmental activities that fuels the
progress of this town. The National airport is
located here. It will be relocated soon to anticipate the flock of tourists.
